WHAT IS TESTOSTERONE DEFICIENCY?

Testosterone deficiency occurs when the level of testosterone drops to an unusually low level, or stops being produced altogether, resulting in symptoms that can often be mistaken as an effect of ageing.

WHY DOES TESTOSTERONE MATTER?

Testosterone is produced naturally by the testicles. It’s required by all men for a healthy life, physically and psychologically. As well as stimulating sperm production and sex drive, testosterone is also crucial for the development of muscle and bone mass.

WHY A MAN LACKS TESTOSTERONE

As men get older, testosterone levels often decline naturally; however, in men with testosterone deficiency the levels of testosterone drop to a point where it affects their health and enjoyment of life in a variety of different ways. It is particularly common in men over 50 and those who already have type 2 diabetes and erectile dysfunction (ED). Testosterone deficiency can be an important health warning for these other conditions.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF TESTOSTERONE DEFICIENCY?

There are various signs and symptoms of testosterone deficiency that can have a significant impact on your sex life as well as your feelings and general well-being.

Remember, you don’t need to have all of these symptoms; some men with testosterone deficiency only have a few of these symptoms. None of these symptoms are specific to testosterone deficiency, so it is important to talk to a doctor to make sure that testosterone deficiency is not confused with other medical conditions, like erectile dysfunction (which could be caused by things other than testosterone deficiency), heart problems or depression.
